Deputy Fire Marshal John D. West, Sr.
John was the Deputy Fire Marshal with the Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office, where he served for 12 years as a Firefighter/EMT and Arson Investigator with his beloved K-9 Partner, Raider. In addition, he was a volunteer with the Mount Ephraim Fire Department for 23 years where he did stints as Chief and Deputy Chief. He belonged to many organizations including: Camden County Municipal Detectives Association, International Association of Arson Investigators, the U.S. Police Canine Association, Camden County Fire Chief’s Association, the NJ Juvenile Arson Task Force and life member of the State Firemen’s Association and the NJ FMBA Local #111.
Angela and the kids are continually surrounded by the love of family and friends, who will never forget John and that “Westy” smile. He would surely be proud of the wonderful job Angela has done in raising their beautiful family, and he would certainly proud of all his kids have become!
In addition to the fire service, John was very active in the community and with the schools. He was a past member of the Mount Ephraim Volunteer Ambulance Squad, a coach in the town’s former Street Hockey League, a coach for the Girls Softball Team and he played, and then coached in the Mount Ephraim Little League. He also served on the Mount Ephraim Board of Education.
John was married to his wife Angela for 15 years. They were both graduates of Audubon High School that grew up just a few blocks away from each other. They had three children together, and John also had a son. Angela has worked very hard to keep her children out of the publicity of that terrible day when their lives were changed forever. All she wanted was “to get back to some form of normalcy” for her children.
Today, the children are all doing well. Alyssa is married and has two beautiful children, Nicole is attending college, and Johnny is in his later years in high school and is very active in sports!
