RE: Cancellation of 21st Annual Heroes to Hero Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk
Dear Race Participants, Sponsors, and Volunteers,
Please be advised that because of ongoing traffic construction and the closing of Klem Avenue, the 21st Annual Heroes to Hero Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk originally scheduled for Saturday October 8, 2022,
will unfortunately not be held as planned.
Upon being made aware of the Klem Avenue closure, the Heroes to Hero Race Committee met to discuss three (3) alternative routes of travel, trying to stay as close to the original route starting at Grant Avenue & Bell Road in Mount Ephraim and finishing at Gloucester City Fire Department. Unfortunately, the alternate routes all presented significant logistical challenges requiring a minimum of nine (9) temporary intersection road closures in excess of one (1) hour on or around heavily traveled roadways. These closures would adversely affect a substantial volume of traffic, possibly resulting in traffic delays on several major arteries.
Because of these and other concerns for the safety of the Race participants, the Committee, in consultation with the families decided to cancel this year’s Heroes to Hero Race.
The Committee will continue to monitor the progress of construction operations and road closures, hopeful we are able to plan a Race for October 2023.
On behalf of the Families, Scholarship recipients, and the Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund, THANK YOU to all the participants, sponsors, and volunteers that have supported this event for the past 21-years.
Regards,
Heroes to Hero Race Committee
